If you want to lose weight, you probably have heard that a low carb diet is the best way to reach your goal. This is half way true. Eating only low carbs and high proteins must be studied closely.

Here I will be explain just the low carb foods.

Vegetables are the best to start with. Low carbs are contained in broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, asparagus, celery, zucchini Most of this group of vegetables contain only traces of carbs. They are rich in fibers and in nutrients, but low in carbohydrates. Do not include pepper fruits, potatoes, eggplants, artichokes: they all contain high amounts of carbohydrates.

The salads are also your friends when you live on a low carbohydrate diet. Prefer lettuce, iceberg salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, young spinach leaves. Do not eat carrots (they are sweet and contain carbs). If you want to eat some grains, go for little processed wild rice or rice.

Fruits are also low carb. What most people do not think of are the sugars contained in fruits. If you want to lose weight, be careful about the fruits you include in your diet. If you eat too much fruit, your body might transform their sugar into fat. The fruits you should prefer are apples, kiwis, oranges, pineapples. They have all got a certain acidity and are not too sugary.

A type of low carb foods are nuts. They contain all sorts of nutrients but very low carbs. However, be careful which you will choose. Not all of them are good if you are on a diet. You can eat almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts and macadamia nuts, but no chestnuts, no cashews, and no peanuts because they contain high amounts of carbohydrates. Nuts are rich in nutrients but they are also rich in fats. Although the fats are of the healthy type, if you eat more than a normal serving, you might gain weight.

All dairy products and milk show quite a lot of carbohydrates. The heavier the cream, the lower the content in carbohydrates, but the higher the fats.

You will not find carbohydrates in eggs. Again, these products have high proteins and fats. So do not eat too much of them. Eggs contain cholesterol in the yolk, but not in the white part. It is therefore good not to take in too many eggs a day. You can take one yolk and two white parts if you want to watch your cholesterol.
